The Grid Tool
Spacing the EASY way...
NO Math Needed!
Quit the Count!
Reveal sections, rows, and columns like MAGIC, and never waste time guesstimating, calculating, or miscounting again!
We Love FREEDOM, Not FRUSTRATION
I get it - preprinted planner pages don't always perfectly fit our lifestyle. We planners, artists, and crafters love the freedom to choose how we structure our days and our pages. To put it bluntly, customizing layouts makes us feel engaged and in control of our lives.
Are YOU in Control, or is YOUR PLANNER Running Your Life?
When you're in creative flow, there's nothing worse than interruptions and distractions tearing you out of your state of mental bliss.
So when you decide to divide and reach for a ruler that only counts up, your brain is ripped from right to left - from visual to numerical. "If my page has 34 dots, how do I evenly divide that by three?" So you grab your calculator...and there goes your flow, not to mention your time AND your sanity!
I mean - you CAN push through (grit, and all that stuff, right?) because doing this work is IMPORTANT to you.
And what happens if you miscount? Whoops! Try that over again!
You have a grid spacing cheat sheet? Great! Now you don't have to calculate, you just have to re-count. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Yeah, you CAN spend all your time in your planner instead of living your life.
But that's not why you use your planner, now, is it?
Are You Letting Your 'How' Block Your 'Why'?
Go back and read that second paragraph again.
Does what you're doing right now make ANY sense?
That feeling you have right now? That's how I felt when I ALMOST THREW IN THE TOWEL on my DIY planning journey. I was ready to go back and surrender all my creativity to someone else's. Fortunately for us both, instead of LETTING ME GIVE up, my muse LIT THE FUSE.
What If You Had A Magic Wand?
How would it make you feel to have a tool that SHOWED possibilities for your layout directly on the page, instead of making you do math?
One that made dividing so EFFORTLESS, you created 3x FASTER (or more!), and stayed in your state of flow LONGER?
Would you keep wasting your time and energy over and over again if you knew an EASIER way to grab life (and your planner) by the horns and get what you wanted out of it?
Of course you wouldn't!
Make Pinterest-perfect layouts in your journal or planner the EASY way! Use The Grid Tool to reveal sections, rows, and columns like MAGIC, and never waste time guesstimating, calculating, or miscounting again! #TheGridTool
Use The Right Tool For The Job
If you're still with me, I want you to do two things right now:
1) STOP using a regular ruler and calculator to divide your layouts.
You wouldn't use a screwdriver to pound in a nail if you had a hammer, right?
Sure, they work well as a straightedge, but standard rulers don't measure in increments that match most dot grid pages. They also don't automatically show you how to divide a chosen area equally. Unless you're a math wiz, you have to break out your calculator to do that!
Grid spacing cheat sheets make it a little easier, until you have to flip back and forth in your journal or migrate to a new one. And you STILL have to count dots or spaces on the page. You can't just line it up and SEE the sections like you can with The Grid Tool.
What is The Grid Tool?
The Grid Tool helps you see and draw evenly-spaced rows and columns in your Bullet Journal or DIY Planner. Better than a Grid Spacing Cheat Sheet and about the size of a bookmark, it's measurements are in 5mm increments. The markings on it are portioned out into evenly-spaced sections.
NOW AVAILABLE in several standard sizes that work with most size A4, B5, A5, B6, and A6 journals, planners, organizers or notebooks with blank, 5mm square grid or 5mm dot grid pages.

Specially Designed for Custom Layouts
I invented The Grid Tool because I wanted the fastest, easiest way to set up my custom layouts in my planner. I wanted it to be a portable, bookmark-sized accessory I could tuck between my pages and use whenever and wherever inspiration chose to strike. I wanted the freedom to use any pen, pencil, or marker - no tiny stencil holes! And I wanted it to keep my focus on my visual, right side of my brain. I wanted it to just SHOW me the divisions without getting caught up in the numbers (unless I wanted to).
I prototyped, tested, and started selling it, thinking if I got value out of it, maybe others would too? Almost 200 sales and many rave reviews later, I can definitively say The Grid Tool has successfully helped both beginner and expert DIY planners, crafters, artists, and journalers up their game to the next level.
Isn't It YOUR Turn?
Love the easy, simple instructions...just what this newbie needed!!
Cas was so kind and helpful and explained to me how I could make it work with my journal! Great support and great tool!
I only have a b&w printer, and so far it is working well. Then I realized, you'd don't need math . . .. So nice. Thanks for thinking and working this up.
What's the worst part of planning? Making grids! This bookmark-sized time-saver will help you easily find the middle of a page or split it into thirds, quarters, and more!
Want to nix row and column frustration NOW? Just download, print, and cut it out. No need to wait for the mail; you'll create beautiful grid layouts in minutes!
Did you know most Bullet Journals and Planners use 5mm increments? Stop the counting and calculating and start seeing your page in sections, not inches!
Anyone can use it to easily make 2-9 (or more!) evenly-spaced rows or columns. You can also use it to mix and match different sizes by dividing the page into quarters, fifths, sixths, sevenths, or more - the sections drawn out on it make it easy to visualize how you can fit them together.
I use the 1/2 page (2 sections) to quickly split my Daily pages into 2 rows, and 3 sections (out of the 4 section layout) to create a 3-column layout for my Far-Future quarters (6 months on a 2-page spread - 3 months on each page).
Speaking of months, creating a Monthly 2-page spread with 5 rows and 4 columns on each page used to be a pain. Now the job is quick and easy!

Print and Cut
Print on heavyweight paper and cut out with a metal ruler and craft knife on a cutting board -OR- print on regular paper and paste onto heavy card-stock before cutting out.
OPTIONAL : Cut notches along the long numbered side for your most-used measurements. I’ve marked the ones I use most with coordinating colors.

What can I do with it?
Anyone can use The Grid Tool to easily make 2-9 (or more!) evenly-spaced rows or columns. I've used it to divide my page into thirds, quarters, fifths, sixths, sevenths, and more. You can also use it to mix and match different size sections with varying margins on the same page! The sections drawn out on it make it easy to visualize how you can fit several together to customize your layouts.
What materials does it work with?
The Grid Tool is a multi-use product for dividing or sectioning anything with at least one flat surface. You can use it on paper, cardboard, cloth, fabric, string, thread, yarn, rubber, stamps, clay, wood, ceramic, plastic, etc.
What type of patterned paper can I use with The Grid Tool?
Technically, you can use whatever style paper you prefer; plain or blank; lined, ruled, or graph; dot grid, line grid, etc.
Increments on each version of The Grid Tool vary - 5mm, Happy Planner size, 4mm, etc.
For example, the 5mm versions' dots are spaced in 5mm increments, so they won’t line up with other less-common size grids (such as 3mm, 4mm, 6mm, 7mm, or in-between sizes). However, no matter the printed pattern on the page, The Grid Tool will still allow you to create evenly-spaced straight rows and columns of various sizes.

Do I need to buy a specific brand or size paper or journal?
No. I crafted it in several variations to work best with the most common standard bullet journal and DIY Planner sizes, including A4, B5, A5, B6, and A6. You’ll just need to pick up and move The Grid Tool to set your measurements if the longest side of your page is larger than that.
For more information, see my Journal and Notebook Compatibility Chart at:
How many different types and sizes of grids can I create with The Grid Tool?
Honestly, (to quote one of my favorite childhood commercials), the world may never know! We think the number of ways you can use The Grid Tool to create your layouts is truly limited only by your imagination (or your ability to discover inspiration on Pinterest!).
Because it’s so adaptable you can use it to create exactly the kind of structure you want. And because it’s portable you can easily set up your pages anytime, anywhere - no need to page back and forth to your Grid Spacing Cheat Sheet, and NO counting dots!

Due to the nature of Digital Media, I cannot offer a refund, exchange or cancellation after you've been sent or given access to the files and all sales are final. Always print at 100% or 'Actual size'. The measurements on the tool will be off if you enlarge or reduce it.
Printing in color will help you quickly differentiate between the most commonly used measurements. If you can only print in black and white, try coloring them with markers or colored pencils.
If you can, print on heavy cardstock. If all you have is regular printer paper, that's ok - you can paste it onto heavier cardstock to make it more sturdy and ruler-like.
Before you cut it out, (if you didn't print it on cardstock) paste it onto heavy cardstock to make it durable.
Using a scissors may make your cuts wavy. Instead, use a metal ruler and a small, sharp craft knife - first in a large rectangle, then going back and notching out the most-used measurements.
This will ensure the sides are exactly straight, and you can use the long, straight side as a straightedge rule like I do in the video above!
There are so many ways to measure and create your columns, rows and grids - and I'm sure we haven't seen them all yet!
You can print as many copies as you personally need and carry it with you in an envelope pasted to the inside of your journal or just tucked between the sheets (it's an excellent bookmark).
